AEW Dynamite: Live Updates, Match Results, Highlights and Reaction from May 17 (1)

The Dynamite lineup.AEW

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of AEW Dynamite on May 17 in Austin, Texas.

All Elite Wrestling was all over the news Wednesday after the announcement of AEW Collision at the WBD upfront presentation, but Dynamite had enough to create its own buzz, too.

After last week's shocking betrayal, Don Callis made an appearance to explain why he turned on Kenny Omega and The Elite.

Erik Beaston will still have you covered with the regular recap and grades, and this will be a space for a more detailed description of what happened during each match and segment.

The most recent segment will appear at the top, so keep refreshing throughout the night.

Why, Don, Why?

The Invisible Hand @TheDonCallis

Don Callis came out to close the show with an interview talking about why he turned on Kenny Omega. He claimed to be the victim in all of this.

Omega's music hit and he came out, but there was a line of security guards between them. The BCC attacked Omega and took him out on the ramp before joining Callis in the ring.

Jon Moxley said the BCC is the real Elite before The Young Bucks showed up with some weapons. Before they could head to the ring, "Hangman" Adam Page joined them wearing an eye patch.

The Elite stormed the ring and took out the BCC. The show ended with Hangman declaring them as the heart and soul of AEW.

Ricky Starks vs. Jay White

JJ Williams @JJWilliamsWON

White rolled out of the ring to avoid Starks right after the bell. He did it again as soon as it looked like Starks was going to hit him.

Juice Robinson was present at ringside, so he would occasionally make his presence felt with a distraction. This allowed White to take control and hit a stun gun for a two-count.

Absolute began to make a comeback when we returned from a break. He hit a belly-to-belly suplex followed by a tornado DDT for a near-fall.

White regained the upper hand and hit a urinagi for a close two-count. Starks planted White with a modified Michinoku driver, but Switchblade kicked out at the last second.

Starks cut him in half with a Spear, but White gouged his eyes. Starks fought off Juice and stole his chair, but he ended up getting himself disqualified when he hit White with it.

Winner: Jay White by Disqualification

Starks did not seem too pleased about the loss and taunted them from the chair.

Rush vs. Jack Perry

RUSH having to follow that wild match is a scary thought <br>Dude is gonna get unhinged lol

Preston Vance and Jose accompanied Rush to the ring for his match against Jungle Boy. El Toro Blanco took control immediately and ran Perry into all four barricades.

Jungle Boy was bleeding within a couple of minutes, but Rush just kept running him into different barricades.

TDE Wrestling @tde_gif

.<a href="https://twitter.com/rushtoroblanco?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@rushtoroblanco</a> is not impressed! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEWDynamite?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEWDynamite</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEWonTBS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEWonTBS</a> <a href="https://t.co/WRvyV8a7Vk">pic.twitter.com/WRvyV8a7Vk</a>

Throughout almost the entire match, Rush was the aggressor. He was beating Jungle Boy down every chance he got, and the AEW pillar was just taking it. Every time he tried to fire back at Rush, his strikes had little to no impact.

Somehow, Perry got him locked in the Snare Trap. Rush made it to the bottom rope to force a break. They started trading strikes on the apron, and it led to Perry being thrown to the floor for a brutal bump.

The ref tried to pull Rush off of Jungle Boy and Rush pushed him away. This allowed Jungle Boy to roll him up for the win.

Winner: Jungle Boy

Vance and Jose helped Rush attack him until Allin ran to the ring. Rush and Vance took him out, too. It was Guevara showing up that turned the tide back in Allin and Perry's favor. The three pillars sent LFI out of the ring.

Chris Jericho vs. Roderick Strong

All Elite Wrestling @AEW

Making his <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEW</a> singles debut, it's <a href="https://twitter.com/roderickstrong?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@RoderickStrong</a> here at <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEWDynamite?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEWDynamite</a> LIVE on TBS! <a href="https://t.co/2VOjp6c95u">pic.twitter.com/2VOjp6c95u</a>

This match was Falls Count Anywhere and the JAS was banned from ringside. Strong immediately went after Jericho, so the ref called for the bell.

Strong almost took out Aubrey by mistake when he was running the ropes. They traded chops until Strong hit a jumping kick followed by a backbreaker for a two-count.

Strong unloaded on Jericho's chest until it was beet-red and nearly bleeding, but the veteran got Strong in the Walls of Jericho and was forced to let go when he reached the bottom rope.

They fought into the crowd during the break. Strong picked him up and dropped him on a railing a couple of times. He almost pinned Jericho on the steps as they kept climbing higher and higher.

They began to fight in the concourse area as dozens of fans watched on. They fought into a stairwell and balanced on an elevated position above the stairs as they chopped each other relentlessly.

Jericho took a cake to the face but repaid Strong by throwing a trash can at him. They ended up in front of the arena where Adam Cole was waiting to attack Jericho. It was all legal since they were not in the arena.

After both men hit Jericho with knees to the head, Strong pinned him in the dirt.

Winner: Roderick Strong

The Outcasts vs. Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com @SeanRossSapp

The Jamie Hayter injury that has her off tonight's AEW Dynamite is legit. We haven't heard her status beyond tonight.

Due to Jamie Hayter's injury, the scheduled trios match was turned into a standard tag team bout. Saraya was at ringside while Toni Storm and Ruby Soho represented The Outcasts against Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida.

Shida and Baker managed to turn things around after Storm and Soho tried to get an early advantage by attacking them before the bell.

Both teams were fighting hard, so we saw a lot more strikes than we did wrestling maneuvers. Saraya pulled Baker onto the apron so Storm could hit a hip attack while the ref was distracted for way too long.

We returned from a break to see Storm and Baker down on the mat. Shida got the hot tag and took it to both opponents and Saraya by taking out all three with a crossbody from the ring to the floor.

The former women's champ scored a close two-count with a running knee and another with a falcon arrow. Storm broke up a pin, but Baker set it up so she hit a DDT on Soho a moment later.

Storm sprayed Baker in the face with their green hair dye before pinning her with the Storm Zero.

Winners: The Outcasts

Even Mark Briscoe Can't Keep the Peace

We were supposed to get an interview with Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett, but FTR showed up and immediately started fighting their future challengers.

Karen Jarrett showed up and hit Cash with a low blow. Double J hit Dax with The Stroke. Satnam Singh hit both men with a chokeslam at the same time.

Lethal and Double J struck each man with a guitar that had their names on them to end the fight.

Sammy Guevara defeated Exodus Prime in less than a minute to send a message to the AEW world champion.

Winner: Sammy Guevara

Guevara grabbed a mic and started talking about working the indies in Texas back in the day and how it all led to where he is now.

The Blackpool Combat Club was shown attacking The Young Bucks backstage. We also saw Wardlow challenge Christian to a ladder match for the TNT title.

The international champion and Moriarty started off this match with a quick exchange. Taigastyle went right on offense. They traded several near-falls until coming to a stalemate.

Bill and Allin tagged in, and the powerhouse whipped Allin around the ring. The risk-taker lived up to his nickname by slapping Bill in the face. He and OC hit a double suicide dive to both opponents at the same time to get a big pop from the crowd.

Fightful Wrestling @Fightful

Austin is a hot crowd tonight.<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEWDynamite?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEWDynamite</a>

We returned from a break to see Cassidy taking a lot of punishment. He avoided both opponents and managed to make a tag to Allin to kick off a fast-paced sequence.

Cassidy and Allin combined the Stundog Millionaire and a Code Red to take out Big Bill. That left them free to hit the Beach Break and the Coffin Drop on Moriarty. Allin sent MJF a message by winning with a side headlock takeover.

Winners: Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin

This week's Dynamite opened with Wardlow coming to the ring to address Christian Cage and his recent challenge for the TNT Championship.

It took him almost no time at all for the veteran to emerge with Luchasaurus by his side.

Wardlow dared him to spit in his face like he said. Cage almost did it, but WarDaddy grabbed him by the throat. He and Luchasaurus started fighting, but the veteran heel hit a low blow to take the TNT champion off his feet.

Cage had Luchasaurus get a ladder for him so he could hit Wardlow in the face. The dinosaur then chokeslammed him onto the ladder and bent it in half.

Cage finished him off with a Killswitch on the ladder to end the segment.
